2016-02-13 18:32 When I heard the first time about snowden, I was thinking how this was mapping in my daily job.
How is possible to tap all the traffic on my links? Imagine I have my STM-4/16/64/whatever Aggregate interface, let’s say 10Gbi. Now, if you put a modified firmware and want to tap everything there, and send a copy somewhere else, what will happen? Well, if you send a copy of everything , you can’t hide it: even if you hide the malicious traffic, it will take 50% of the I/O. Sooner or later, since we PAY for that 10Gbi, we will notice having just 50% of this bandwidth. Until I monitor the interface, it is hard to steal 50% of the I/O. It would result to a urgent ticket to the vendor, which MUST solve it. They can’t tap this kind of backbones.Of course they could tap the link itself: but, to transmit all the data, they would need a “parallel” link with the same I/O. Hard to believe that NSA duplicated the whole internet infrastructure, everywhere.
Second way , packet inspection: they only take what they search for. CPUs are powerful, but to tap 10Gbi, even if this is in clear, you consume a shit load of CPU. Sure, you can hide the thread or the program doing that, but if tapping 10Gbi of traffic, you raise an alarm on my CPU monitoring. If you hide the real CPU consumption, still we see latency when the router is not under load. Then I would call the vendor , Cisco/ValiantCom/Whoever, and raising tickets.
No, massive Packet Inspection can only happen if POOR MONITORING AND ALARMING. Also the idea of backdoor on a big switch/routes is hard: what about failover? And how you predict every subscriber policy? No, cannot work like that. I come to the conclusion that massive survellaince MUST happen at application level , into the big clouds, the big social networks, the big search engines. Whatever they say, the ARE doing the evil. I don’t need evidences, where I have logics. https://boseburo.ddns.net/fnord/url/5491

Conversations will likely be much more complete. I’ll do it tomorrow I hope. Depends on my mood. Shouldn’t take more than some hours including testing. Let’s hope for the best.

2016-02-13 09:38 For the first part of my life, I was always upset about people which was not understanding science, math, technology. I was always upset with the people which was thinking that “we don’t need that, we will do as we always did”. But now it is worst. Today it has become a kind of fashion. Science, Math, Technology had become the new black. People which cannot solve a 2nd order equation is now going around talking about quantum physics. People which wastes a week to interface a single led with an Arduino , suddenly is lecturing around about robots. People which only knows http starts to write “network expert” in the CV, and they say “this protocol is dead” whatever not-http they meet, just because they don’t know it. People which had barely installed Linux on their home pc starts saying they are system engineers. Being honest, I prefer blatant ignorance like before, versus this utterly fake competence, built reading Wired and installing Ubuntu. https://boseburo.ddns.net/fnord/url/5482

2016-02-12 23:24 Antonio Corradini, Tuccia velata, palazzo Barberini, Roma. Tuccia was a “Vestale”, which was under allegation of “incestus”, which meant she was not virgin anymore.Since “Vestali” were supposed to be virgin as a symbol of un-violated Rome, this was punished being buried alive in a small, underground room. She asked the court to proof she was right, using an “ordalia”. And she won, being able to carry water with a sieve. (with the help of gods). https://boseburo.ddns.net/fnord/attachment/5465

2016-02-12 23:17 Michelangelo’s Moses, (c. 1513–1515), housed in the church of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome. The sculpture was commissioned in 1505 by Pope Julius II for his tomb. (Yes, it has horns.Believe or not, they were considered a sign of wisdom.) https://boseburo.ddns.net/fnord/attachment/5464
